In 1775, Portsmouth resident, Jonathan Mitchel Sewall wrote the words to song that would be sung in taverns and battlegrounds during the Revolutionary War. Seacoast Village member, Nancy Hammond, will meet us in the Randall Gallery at the Athenaeum and guide us through her fascinating exhibit “Walking in the Footsteps of a Patriot”. We will then convene for a short discussion with Athenaeum members about the benefits of being a Village member. Light refreshments will be provided.
About our Guide
Nancy Hammond has written a book about Sewall and has curated the exhibit at the Portsmouth Athenaeum, “Walking in the Footsteps of a Patriot” about Sewall’s rich history as a poet-lawyer.
