Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes at an aquarium? At the Seacoast Science Center, the backroom is where the real magic happens — it's the hub for life support systems, quarantine and holding, food prep, and all the behind-the-scenes care that keeps exhibits running and animals healthy.
On this exclusive tour, aquarist Sam Rutka will take us behind the scenes to see the massive pressurized sand filters, Bio-towers, protein skimmers, and the many meters of pipes and plumbing that make it all work. It's a fascinating look at what the public never gets to see!
Please note: There is a long, flat walk from the parking lot to the Seacoast Science Center entrance. The tour will involve standing.
Admission: Free for ages 65+ (Odiorne State Park entrance fee waived)
After the tour: Odiorne State Park is a beautiful spot for a picnic if you'd like to stay and enjoy the grounds!
